The months of speculation on what the Philadelphia Eagles would have to do with tight end Dallas Goedert is finally over.
On Wednesday, The Philadelphia Inquirer Eagles reporter Jeff McLane reported the Eagles and Goedert agreed on a reworked contract for the 2025 season. According to ESPN's Field Yates, Goedert will now get paid $10 million for the season and could earn up to $1 million in incentives.
In 2021, the Eagles signed Goedert to a four-year, $57 million contract extension to keep him with the team through 2025. His original contract had him paid $14 million for this upcoming season.
What Dallas Goedert's reworked contract means for the Eagles in 2025
Goedert has emerged as one of the top 10 tight ends in the NFL since being selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Eagles. His status has been legendary from the start since Philadelphia stole Goedert from the Dallas Cowboys who had originally wanted him.
Over the last seven years in Philadelphia, Goedert has made 349 receptions for 4,085 yards and 24 touchdowns in 93 games. While he has never made the Pro Bowl, he has been one of the top targets in the passing game as he had eclipsed 600 receiving yards in a season three times.
There's no debating his talent as a pass catcher and his improvement as a blocker, but his durability was one of the biggest reasons for his potential trade talks in the offseason. Goedert missed seven games last year with a hamstring and knee injuries. He has missed a total of 15 games in the last three seasons.
Philadelphia has seven tight ends on the current roster going into training camp. The front office brought in Kylen Granson, Harrison Bryant, and Cameron Latu in the offseason.
The expectation is that Goedert and Grant Calcaterra will likely be the one-two punch at the top of the tight end position. Calcaterra took a massive step forward in 2024 with Goedert's injury as he caught 24 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown in 17 games.
Training camp will be fascinating to see what the Eagles do at the tight end position and who remains on the roster with many players at the same position. This doesn't completely close the door on Goedert being traded at some point during the season, but in a contract year, watch for Goedert to be playing at his best.
