Daniel Dubois is challenging for the undisputed world heavyweight crown against Oleksandr Usyk on July 19th.
Daniel Dubois is getting a second shot at greatness as he prepares to face Oleksandr Usyk once more, this time at Wembley Stadium, and for the undisputed crown.
In their first encounter, Usyk was 36 years of age, and Dubois had been dropped by Kevin Lerena last time out.
Now, Usyk is 38 years old and has been a part of two wars with Tyson Fury, whilst Dubois has built his confidence with wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua.
Dubois claimed the IBF interim title against Hrgovic, and was elevated to a full world champion for his fight with Joshua, but it was in 2022 that he won his first world title, albeit a Regular belt, against a man backed by one legendary heavyweight.
Daniel Dubois obliterated Larry Holmes’ fighter, Trevor Bryan
In 2022, having taken his first loss to Joe Joyce three fights earlier, and made his US debut in his latest outing, Dubois faced 22-0 Trevor Bryan for the WBA Regular heavyweight world title.
The fight took place in Miami, Florida, and saw the 17-1 Dubois, trained by Shane McGuigan, face Bryan, trained by Larry Holmes and others, as part of a Don King promotion.
Larry Holmes, the only man to stop Muhammad Ali, had spoken highly of Bryan ahead of the fight, and had claimed he was impressed with what he had seen.
Bryan disappointed the legendary Holmes though, as he was flattened by Dubois in four rounds.
Following Bryan’s loss, Holmes spoke to TNT Sports, and stated, “I’m disappointed because he didn’t do exactly what he was taught to do in the camp.”
He claimed Bryan failed to incorporate his jab enough, and put bluntly what Bryan should’ve done, “Make him drunk and then you go to mug him.”
Daniel Dubois had his eyes on Dillian Whyte fight after Trevor Bryan win
Following the win over Bryan, TalkSport reports that Dubois claimed he wanted a match with ‘The Bodysnatcher’ Dillian Whyte next.
Dubois said, “Dillian Whyte, Joseph Parker, all the names out there, they’re all on my hit list.”
Whyte had just lost his fight with Tyson Fury and has not looked great since, scraping a decision win against Jermaine Franklin before two fights with lackluster opponents.
Whyte will now face Moses Itauma in what may be the riskiest fight of his career. Shannon Briggs claimed Itauma was dropped in sparring, though, so Whyte may still have a chance.
