Daniel Jones 'rejects Las Vegas Raiders' as they are not in playoff contention

Daniel Jones has interest from multiple teams as he weighs up his return to the NFL - but he won't be doing it with the Las Vegas Raiders.

NFL insider shares shocking status update on Giants' Daniel Jones | Yardbarker

Jones was released by the New York Giants on his own request last week after the franchise benched the quarterback - and demoted him to fourth-string - following an all-round disastrous season.

The 27-year-old Jones has an array of teams ready to offer him a fresh start but it was reported on Monday evening that he does not plan to join the Las Vegas Raiders.

The news was broken by Jordan Schultz, who said Jones wants to join a team that is a postseason contender; the Raiders, at 2-9, do not fit the bill.

Jones could have found some playing time in Vegas, as the Raiders just lost quarterback Gardner Minshew II for the rest of the season to a collarbone injury.

Schultz added that Jones is fielding 'substantial' interest from multiple playoff teams.

ESPN's Adam Schefter previously named the Vikings and Ravens as two of the likeliest teams to land him.

Minnesota (9-2) and Baltimore (8-4) are covered at the quarterback position through Sam Darnold and Lamar Jackson respectively.

However, with both teams gearing up for likely postseason appearances, Jones could serve as vital insurance in the event of an injury.

The 49ers have also been mentioned as a potential landing spot, with quarterback Brock Purdy dealing with a shoulder injury that forced him to miss last weekend's game.

San Francisco is very much on the playoff bubble at 5-6 but of course have postseason pedigree following their run to the Super Bowl last year.

If Purdy's injury is viewed to be more long-term, San Francisco's interest could be 'very real,' according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
