Davante Adams has made more headlines than he likely wanted to this season. But the New York Jets wide receiver is now opting to take a different route when addressing the rumors or questions flying on social media and sports talk shows.
Unfortunately for his former team, the Las Vegas Raiders, that's led to a few body blows coming their way. Adams is a regular guest on FanDuel TV's show Up & Adams, hosted by Kay Adams, and he's been consistently candid during the appearances.
During the most recent episode of the show, Adams was asked how he feels about the swirling speculation that he and/or quarterback Aaron Rodgers may not be with the Jets next season.
Adams gave a straightforward answer about his future with the Jets, stating that he "can't really determine that." But he proceeded to dive directly into whether leaving the Raiders was the right decision based on the two teams' records and his production.
Adams then levied a few shots at the Raiders while comparing this season in Las Vegas to his time with the Jets.
"Regardless of whether or not it was the right thing to do, it was the right thing for me to do to come here and change scenery ..." Adams said initially. "When you look at the situation I was in in Vegas and you look at the situation I'm in here, the potential of this offense — I at least feel hopeful going into the next game that we'll be able to have a good performance."
"Just based off different variables in Vegas, I started to not feel that way, even about myself and what I was able to go out and contribute week in and week out."
Shortly after, Adams continued to describe the two situations and admitted to feeling "helpless and hopeless" during the end of his tenure with the Raiders.
"At least not feeling just helpless and hopeless. That at least makes me feel better knowing I came here, gave it the shot," Adams said. "I'm still working with somebody that I have a lot of confidence in and still can play ball at a high level."
Adams's comments were surprisingly blunt, especially his final statement about his own feelings on the situation in Las Vegas. However, the honesty about how he felt before the trade is refreshing, and it's apparent that a trade to give Adams a fresh start was necessary.
While his tenure with the Jets has been modestly quiet thus far, the biggest surprise remains the team's struggles. Through five games, Adams has caught 26 passes for 278 yards and one touchdown, but the Jets' 3-8 mark remains one of the NFL's biggest plot twists.
The Jets entered the 2024 NFL season as a potential Super Bowl contender in the eyes of many, but now virtually everything about their future is an unknown.
