The Minnesota Vikings did a great job in free agency fixing the defensive tackle position. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah fixed the position with Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave, two pass rushers who could make a huge difference in creating an interior pass rush.
The issue is arguably "solved" for the next two years, but there are still questions beyond that, as they are both over the age of 30. It's a short-term solution for a team that is ready to make a Super Bowl run this year.
Vikings upgrade DT in latest mock draft
If the Vikings end up taking a defensive tackle in the first round, there are few different candidates. Walter Nolen, Kenneth Grant, and Derrick Harmon are the most likely candidates. A to Z Sports' Ryan Roberts sent the Vikings Harmon in his latest mock draft.
The interior defensive line isn’t a huge priority due to the signings of Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave, but the value of Harmon was way too much to pass up. Dating back to his time with Michigan State, Harmon has experience playing all over the defensive line. He is talented enough to become the most impactful member of that group behind Allen before too long.
Harmon is a really interesting player. He does a great job getting penetration, but struggles as a finisher. That's not as big of a deal, especially since getting penetration is the most important aspect of the position.
The real key here for the Vikings is the versatility angle. Harmon can play all across the defensive line, which will be huge for Flores as he continues to build up a championship-caliber defense.
Roberts did three rounds in this mock draft and decided to upgrade the Vikings' secondary, doing so with Cal cornerback Nohl Williams, who did a really good job at the Shrine Bowl.
