Deion Sanders breaks silence with a subtle message after Shedeur Sanders gets drafted by the Cleveland Browns

Deion Sanders Says He'll Privately Stop Some NFL Teams From Drafting Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns taking two quarterbacks didn’t seem to be the original plan but the team couldn’t pass up the value of Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Cleveland had already taken Dillon Gabriel out of Oregon in the third round but decided to double down on the position after Sanders kept slipping.

It was known that the Browns liked Sanders through the process but it was never thought to be possible to get him with the No. 144 pick in the draft. Deion Sanders broke silence for the first time on Sunday morning since the Browns selected his son with a message in X (Twitter).

“Everybody’s worried about what happened yesterday & fear the possibilities of what will happen tomorrow when we should be focused on NOW! What we do with our NOW is what matters the most. Let’s make the most of our NOW.”

The Browns now have quite a bit of attention on them and a full quarterback room. Counting Deshaun Watson, who is rehabbing from reinjuring his Achilles, the Browns have five quarterbacks. Sanders and Gabriel enter a quarterback room with Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. Cleveland is expected to give them all a chance to compete.

Going into the draft, the Browns were scheduled to make 10 picks. Cleveland only ended up making seven and the trade up for Sanders cost them one of their other picks to move up. The Browns deemed the move worth it.

Whether or not this pick in the fifth-round will be worth it will take a couple of years to find out. Still, a fifth-round pick is a shot in the dark usually and Sanders has a chance to out perform his draft stock.
