The Denver Broncos have a great staff around Sean Payton and the players. Sure, the players do most of the work on the field. But there is a difference between Sean Payton's first year and this year. The biggest difference is the staff and the people he has put in the front office.
We have already seen numerous teams interested in people from the Broncos. Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has taken interviews this offseason. Assistant GM Darren Mougey left to take the New York Jets GM job, and now there's a possibility of another leaving.
According to Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears want to interview the Broncos' Senior Personnel Executive David Shaw for their offensive coordinator position.
Bears interested in Broncos' Davis Shaw
David Shaw is a prominent football coach with experience in both the NFL and college football, particularly at Stanford. His NFL coaching career spanned from 1997 to 2005, starting with the Philadelphia Eagles as a quality control coach. He then moved to the Oakland Raiders, now the Las Vegas Raiders, where he was involved in two consecutive AFC West championships. After his stint with the Raiders, he coached for the Baltimore Ravens.
After leaving the NFL, Shaw returned to college football, first as a passing game coordinator at the University of San Diego under Jim Harbaugh in 2006. He followed Harbaugh to Stanford as offensive coordinator in 2007, and when Harbaugh left for the NFL in 2011, Shaw took over as head coach.
At Stanford, he led the team to three Pac-12 titles, three Rose Bowl appearances with two victories, and produced numerous NFL draft picks. He became Stanford's winningest coach with a 96-54 record over 12 years. Shaw left Stanford in 2022 and joined the Denver Broncos as a senior personnel executive in 2024.
