The Denver Broncos drafted Bo Nix in the 2024 NFL Draft with the intention of finding a new franchise guy, something that they have not been able to get right since Peyton Manning was in town. They have since traded for guys, signed guys, and drafted guys that they thought would be the next best things, only for none of them to work out.
And, we don't know if Nix will work out either, as he is a rookie whom we haven't seen play a single snap in the NFL yet. Sure, we see throws online and he looks great, but so did some past QBs that just were not good. As for Nix, there is one big key to his rookie season that will help him be the best he can possibly be, and that's having good weapons.
They have Courtland Sutton, who is their best receiver but could hold out of training camp. He was at a mandatory minicamp but opened up about his situation. But, it's not just about getting Sutton back to Denver, it's about ensuring the team's success.
His presence as a safety blanket for Nix could be a game-changer. The sooner the contract dispute is resolved, the sooner the team can focus on their game plan and work towards their goals.
The Broncos have plenty of other weapons, too, like Nix college teammate Troy Franklin whom they also drafted. They also have guys like Marvin Mims, Tim Patrick, and Josh Reynolds.
However, it seems that there is one guy a little further down the line on the depth chart that is establishing a great connection with Nix. Lil'Jordan Humphrey, a former Sean Payton wide receiver with the New Orleans Saints, seems to be making some big-time plays.
One that really stands out is the deep ball these two keep connecting on. Obviously, there is no defense being played and pads aren't on, but this is all about establishing trust and chemistry.
The two have also been seen working on passes to the flat while practicing getting both feet in bounds.
It's pretty obvious these two are establishing a connection. And, who knows, maybe we could see something special out of the two of them this season.
