WBC World Heavyweight Champion, Deontay Wilder was asked during a social media takeover what the outcome would be if he fought Muhammad Ali in a fantasy fight.
Wilder went undercover for GQ Sports, where he controlled a Twitter, Youtube, Reddit and Quora account and answered fans questions and comments.
While answering confidently about beating Conor Mcgregor in a fantasy fight, when it came to his “idol” Muhammad Ali, Wilder spoke with endless respect and gratitude.
The undefeated American said “That’s my idol man, he’s one of the reasons why I’m in this sport,”
Later adding, “He’ll forever live on in my heart, so, unfortunately, this is a fantasy fight, and I wouldn’t wanna fight my man.”
Despite Deontay Wilder not wanting to fight his hero, not once does he mention that he’d lose the fight.
While not wanting to fight Muhammad Ali himself, Wilder’s next fight is looking very likely to be the hugely anticipated rematch against an individual who styles himself on ‘The Greatest’.
Tyson Fury, otherwise known as ‘The Gypsy King’ fought Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas during December 2018 in what was a historic night of boxing.
The fight was scored a draw, meaning both fighters kept their undefeated records and Wilder remained WBC Heavyweight Champion, however, due to the excitement and quality of the first fight, boxing fans have been craving the rematch ever since.
Unfortunately, we will never be able to see a prime Deontay Wilder fight a prime Muhammad Ali, however, the rematch vs Tyson Fury has the potential to be just as electrifying.
