Derek Hough Celebrates 40th Birthday with Epic Family Trip: “Family Is Everything to Me”

"Dancing With the Stars” judge Derek Hough went all out for his 40th birthday celebration. The former “DWTS” pro included his family in the fun, and he took fans along for the ride.

Hough opted out of a quiet birthday celebration and instead put the focus on maximum fun with a trip to Disney World. His family was on board to celebrate, with his wife Hayley Erbert wearing a Derek-centric shirt to mark the occasion.

On May 27, Hough took to Instagram to share a video showing highlights of how he and his extended family rang in his 40th year on the planet.

“A full family Disney takeover! Parents, sisters, nieces, nephews and my wife rocking that hilarious shirt 😂 Good times to turn us all into adult-sized kids,” he wrote in the caption.

In the clip, the family (including sister/”DWTS” co-host” Julianne Hough) were seen enjoying the parks and the rides.

Julianne Hough Calls the Trip a ‘Core Memory’

On May 23, Julianne shared some highlights from the birthday trip on Instagram.

“Just spent the most incredible week at Disney World celebrating my brother @derekhough 40th birthday, and wow, my heart is so full✨,” she wrote in the caption.

Julianne continued, “It was magical, playful, nostalgic, and deeply connected. Just being together, playing like kids, and soaking in the joy reminded me how spiritual PLAY can be.”

She noted how the trip was a reflection of her brother. “The fact that this is what Derek wanted for his 40th birthday, gathering our entire family in a place built for joy and imagination, says everything about the man he is,” Julianne noted. “And that’s thanks in huge part to his incredible wife @hayley.erbert who brought this whole dream to life. Your heart and thoughtfulness reflect and uplift Derek’s spirit in the most beautiful way.”

It was a hit for everyone involved. “We played, we reconnected, we laughed … until some of us pee’d, we soaked in every moment. I think I said it 17 times … can we please all just live in the same place again?” the “DWTS” co-host wrote.

She noted, “I miss my family more than words can say and I’m so grateful Derek and Hayley brought us all together in this way. It’s not perfect, we’re not always on the same path at the same time, but we choose each other over and over again, through every high and low. That to me is sacred.”

Julianne added, “This trip? Core memory for sure. Happy 40th, D. Here’s to the next chapter of love, play, and family magic. 🏰❤️”
