“Dancing With the Stars” judge Derek Hough and his wife, Hayley Erbert, have returned to their home after being forced to evacuate due to the California wildfires.
“We are all back home and safe,” Erbert captioned a post on her Instagram Stories on January 18. “Feeling so grateful while simultaneously feeling so heartbroken for our city and the people who have been affected,” she added.
Prior to evacuating, the two had returned home from being on their holiday tour.
Derek Hough & Hayley Erbert Left Home With Their 5 Pets
Hough and Erbert left their home earlier this month with all of their animals and some of their most important belongings as the fires raged nearby.
“The winds are hitting 100mph, and we’re packing up, preparing to evacuate with our five animals if needed,” Hough shared in a Facebook update on January 7.
“It’s scary with power lines exploding around us and the fires spreading so fast. Thank you to the incredible firefighters risking everything to keep us safe. Sending all our prayers and love to the firefighters and everyone affected by the fires near us. Please, everyone, stay safe, stay smart, and look out for each other,” he added.
The next day, Hough took to his Instagram Stories to share a video of how packing was going. In one video, the couple’s cat Otis had jumped into a suitcase.
“Alright, we’re currently packing up to evacuate the house,” Hough said. “Otis is ready to go, aren’t you bud? We’ve got hard drives and other important things. Alright, let’s do this,” he added.
Derek Hough Posted About the TikTok Ban After Returning Home
Just after returning home, Hough prepared for the TikTok ban that was implemented on January 19.
“Going through some old TikTok’s. Good Times,” Hough captioned a post containing a bunch of content he’d posted on the platform.
As it turns out, the ban didn’t last very long.
“… AAAAAAND WE’RE BACK,” he commented on his own post about an hour later.
Some fans took to the comments to express relief that Hough and Erbert are okay following the devastating fires in the area.
“Happy you are back. I hope you and Hayley and your pets are safe now. I hope your home survived the fires. Love, love watching you dance,” one person wrote.
“Glad you guys are safe and sound,” someone else said, adding a red heart emoji.
