“Dancing With the Stars” judge Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert appear to have evacuated their home in California after nearby wildfires threatened their safety.
“Alright, we’re currently packing up to evacuate the house,” Hough said in a video posted on his Instagram Stories on January 8. He took a video of a suitcase filled with hard drives — and one of his cats, who had jumped in.
“Otis is ready to go, aren’t you bud?” Hough asked the sweet kitty. “We’ve got hard drives and other important things. Alright, let’s do this,” he said.
Before sharing that he and Erbert were evacuating, Hough shared a video of a massive fire burning in Runyon Canyon, calling it “scary.” He shared another video, this time to his Instagram feed, showing a nearby blaze.
“Just took this and can’t believe this is all happening,” he captioned the post. Erbert left two broken heart emoji in the comments.
On January 8, Hough assured fans that he and Erbert weren’t in any danger and hadn’t evacuated just yet.
“We aren’t too close to any dangerous fires, and are not being evacuated, however these power lines around us keep popping and essentially exploding which can cause fires. Keeping a close eye that nothing comes from it. We are packed and prepared need be. All our love to those affected so far, please stay safe. And again thank you to all the firefighters and volunteers who are risking it all,” he wrote on Instagram.
A short while later, however, Hough shared the video of his suitcase, getting ready to head out.
Fans have been sending prayers to Hough and Erbert for days, and that only intensified after the couple’s latest Instagram shares.
“This is absolutely terrifying and devastating. Sending you all prayers. Please stay safe,” one person wrote.
“This is just unbelievable unbelievable! Praying for you and Hayley and your fur babies and….EVERYONE in the Golden State! Just this is, unreal! Soooo devastating,” someone else said.
“Dancing With the Stars” co-host and Hough’s sister, Julianne Hough, also shared a post on social media, letting fans know that she had safely evacuated. She also encouraged those in the area to get to safety as soon as possible.
“OK, so, there is a fire right by my house. We’re with friends, but anybody that’s in the Hollywood Hills, I’ve just been having this intuitive feeling that we’re in a bowl of how everything is surrounding Hollywood, and now this is at the center of Hollywood,” Julianne Hough said on her Instagram Stories.
“Everybody needs to just evacuate. Go, go, go, go, go. Right now,” she added.
Other DWTS cast members, including Maks Chmerkovskiy, Val Chmerkovskiy, and Sasha Farber, are keeping a close eye on what’s going on with the fires where they live.
