Cleveland, OH – The Browns’ training camp faced an early setback as two undrafted rookies, defensive back Eli Garrison and offensive guard Logan DeWitt, were both sidelined by significant injuries, casting doubt over their immediate NFL futures.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson, no stranger to adversity himself, stepped up as a voice of encouragement. After a grueling practice under the Ohio sun, Watson gathered the rookie class and delivered an emotional speech urging them to stay resilient.

He reflected on his own journey — from college stardom to professional highs and lows — and emphasized that grit, growth, and perseverance are non-negotiable in Cleveland.

“I’ve had my name dragged, I’ve fought injuries, I’ve been doubted,” Watson said. “But I’ve never let it stop me. If you’re a Cleveland Brown, that means you fight through the storm. The fans, your teammates, your family — they’re counting on your comeback. Your chapter isn’t done yet.”

Eli Garrison, a 6’2”, 210-pound safety from Texas Tech, had impressed early with his burst and awareness, running a 4.50 40-yard dash and flashing range in 7-on-7s. Garrison started 31 games for the Red Raiders, totaling 164 tackles and 7 interceptions, earning All-Big 12 Second Team honors in 2024. The Browns were trialing him at strong safety and hybrid STAR roles.

On the offensive front, Logan DeWitt, a 6’4”, 307-pound guard from Iowa State, brought experience and toughness. DeWitt logged over 1,200 collegiate snaps and started 38 games, earning praise for his anchor in pass protection. The Browns hoped he’d compete for a backup interior role behind veterans Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller.

Now, both Garrison and DeWitt must battle injury timelines and steep roster odds — but Watson’s message hit home in the locker room: being a Cleveland Brown means writing your story through pain and persistence.

“This city doesn’t quit,” Watson reminded them. “And neither will we. Let’s go to work.”

As the camp grind continues, the stories of Garrison and DeWitt are reminders that in Cleveland, effort is the expectation, and redemption is always within reach
