The Cleveland Browns took a major step back in 2024 after making the playoffs last season.
They went 3-14 and have a lot of questions entering the offseason, particularly at quarterback.
Deshaun Watson ruptured his Achilles during the regular season and was on track to be ready for the 2025 season before he ruptured it again while he was recovering from surgery. He had to have another surgery on his Achilles, putting his status for next season in jeopardy.
The trade for Watson hasn't worked out the way the Browns have wanted it to and The Athletic's Jason Lloyd dove into it with a column on Wednesday.
He discussed everything that had gone wrong with the situation and also reported that Watson's agent received an email from someone in June who was threatening to shoot Watson or burn down his house.
"His agent, David Mulugheta, received a disturbing email in June from someone threatening to shoot Watson or burn down his house, according to a police report obtained by The Athletic," Lloyd wrote.
An investigation was opened to look into the threat but was later closed since police couldn't identify a suspect.
Watson has been with the Browns for three seasons but has only played in 19 games due to injuries and suspensions. In those 19 games, he has compiled 3,365 yards through the air, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
He finished the 2024 season with 1,148 yards through the air, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
The Browns enter the 2025 NFL Draft with the second overall pick so at least one of Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward will be there if they want to take a quarterback. They could also take the best playmaker and sign a quarterback during free agency to give Watson some competition when he's healthy again.
These next few months should be super fascinating for the Browns franchise.
