One of the biggest weaknesses that the Kansas City Chiefs had to address this offseason was the left tackle position.
And it hasn't taken long for general manager Brett Veach to get on the front foot, signing former San Francisco 49ers left tackle Jaylon Moore on a two-year, $30 million deal.
The move now gives Patrick Mahomes a solid blindside blocker as both Kingsley Suamataia and Wanya Morris both failed to be consistent contributors last season.
Last season, Moore was a bit-part player for Kyle Shanahan's offense, playing just 249 snaps at left tackle, but he didn't have a penalty, only allowed 10 pressures and two quarterback hits, so there is production there.
He now brings that to the Chiefs, who are desperate for offensive line reinforcements. Joe Thuney is now a Chicago Bear, but Trey Smith has been franchise tagged, yet there is still room for the Chiefs to add to the line in free agency or the draft.
Mahomes was under duress for the entire Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, which highlighted the need for a solid, veteran tackle to protect him.
At 27 years old, the Chiefs think Moore fits the criteria they are looking for, and now Mahomes has a new blindside blocker, and Kansas City didn't exactly have to break the bank either.
The two-year deal is nice, and maybe the thought is once that expires, Suamataia or Morris will have developed enough to take over potentially.
But right now, the left tackle spot belongs to Moore, and we imagine that Mahomes is thrilled with the Chiefs' latest move.
