The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Dorit Kemsley and Paul "PK" Kemsley announced on Thursday, May 9, that they had split after nine years of marriage and two children together.
But, viewers may recall that the couple had been open about their marital struggles throughout RHOBH Season 13 ahead of their separation. In fact, during a February 2024 episode of Bravo's Hot Mic podcast, the couple appeared together where they spoke about the parts of their marriage that they couldn't see eye to eye on.
Paul "PK" Kemsley said he's "not going to walk 10 feet" behind Dorit Kemsley
While PK said on the podcast that Dorit was a "fantastic wife and fantastic mother," he admitted that living with her can be difficult. "Dorit's got her ways," he said. "You know, we know she talks a lot, right? And it's difficult to get a word in, which is why this podcast is interesting."
"But I'm not going to walk 10 feet behind my wife," he added. "It's just not who I am."
PK admitted that he wanted to be a leader in his relationship, Dorit then said she would rather walk "side by side." "The point is, I'm not that person," he said. "So if I don't feel that my voice is wanted or if I'm needed, then I'm a guy who will [be like], 'OK then. Why bother?'"
Paul "PK" Kemsley had a hard time with RHOBH
Dorit even admitted that PK had trouble with her being a cast member on RHOBH where he didn't have equal footing with her. PK explained to podcast host, Alex Baskin, that he had trouble with Dorit wanting him around during some times during the season, but pushing him away at others. "Last season, 'It's the Housewives, you're not needed.' Which one is it?" PK asked.
"It's not mine and PK's show, obviously" Dorit explained in her reply. "If I had it my way, it would be. I would love nothing more, but I'm not saying that to kind of, one-up my husband. It just is what it is."
Dorit Kemsley admitted Paul "PK" Kemsley could drive her "up the wall"
During their appearance on the podcast, Dorit said that "there is a lot of love between PK and I — he's my family." However, she admitted that some things could get between them. "But, he can also drive me up the wall, and I wanna kill him. And vice versa," she said.
Dorit admitted to Alex that she doesn't like being alone. "But, we have, there's nothing in our lives that we don't do together... PK and I are not good when we're not together," she said. "We're not good when we're not doing everything together and involved in each other's lives the way we've always been. It actually disconnects us."
When did Dorit and Paul "PK" Kemsley separate?
Dorit took to her Instagram feed on Thursday, May 9, where she released a statement announcing that they had separated. Although she did not give an exact timeline to their separation, she did say that the split was amicable. PK reposted the same statement to his Instagram Story.
"We as a couple have been subject to a lot of speculation about our marriage," Dorit and PK wrote. "We have had our struggles over the last few years and continue to work through them as two people who love each other and share two amazing children together. To safe guard our deep friendship and maintain a harmonious environment for our children, we have made the mutual and difficult decision to take some time apart and reevaluate our relationship while we prioritize our children. We appreciate your love and support while we continue to do the work necessary throughout this journey. With love, Dorit and PK."
