Season 3 “Dancing With the Stars” champ Emmitt Smith could return to the NFL in a big way. In an interview with Us Weekly, the former running back said that he’d consider a job as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
“At the end of the day, I have considered it,” he told the outlet when asked about the possibility. “I would consider coaching the University of Florida, Texas A&M and the Dallas Cowboys if the opportunity presented itself,” he continued.
“I do understand that I have to prove to these folks that I know what I’m talking about, that I know what I’m doing. The way I see it, it’s really all about my staff anyway. It’s about empowering people to take the philosophy that I want to impose upon the team, as well as the organization, to make it great,” he added.
Smith, who played 13 seasons with the Cowboys, retired in 2004.
Emmitt Smith’s Son Plays College Football
Smith’s son, Emmitt Smith IV, plays running back for the Texas A&M Aggies.
In 2016, Smith talked about his son playing the sport.
“Why would I steal his passion from him?” Smith said in an interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (via NBC Sports).
“I never made him play football. He had many choices, options. I love watching him play basketball. Football, I get nervous just like any other parent. And I’m concerned for him just like any other parent. But his goals are his goals, and my job is to help him reach it and protect him when he needs protection. And so to take another kid’s passion from them is just not right. I don’t think it’s right. It’s like me taking your passion from you, telling you, ‘You cannot do this.’ When you want to do it. Especially if it’s right. It’s good for him,” he added.
Emmitt Smith Predicts the Kansas City Chiefs Will Win the Super Bowl
Smith isn’t knee-deep in the NFL world anymore, but he still keeps up with what’s going on. In a recent interview, he weighed in on who he thinks will win the Super Bowl.
“I would lean towards the Chiefs – No. 1, because of the level of experience that they actually have in the Super Bowl,” Smith told Athlon Sports.
“They plan for something greater than just the Super Bowl itself. They plan for their mark on history to do something different than no other team in history has ever done. They just know how to win in tight situations, they’ve been built to play in tight situations. Some teams, some teams are just not built that way,” he added.
