Danny Amendola and his Dancing With the Stars partner, Witney Carson, are hoping that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reach out to them after their Deadpool & Wolverine-inspired jazz routine.
“I would probably freak out [if we heard from them],” Amendola, 38, exclusively told Us Weekly on Tuesday, October 22, after he and Carson, 31, performed to “Bye Bye Bye” from the superhero film dressed as Reynolds and Jackman’s characters.
Carson echoed the sentiment, agreeing, “I’d freak out.”
“Ryan is one of my favorite actors. Obviously Hugh too,” Amendola continued. “We wanted to pay homage to them. [Deadpool & Wolverine] was very action-packed, very comedic, and we wanted to incorporate some of that into our dance.”
Reynolds, 48, and Jackman, 56, reprised their roles as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively, in the film, which hit theaters in July. Amendola dressed as Deadpool and Carson dressed as Wolverine for their performance during DWTS’ Disney Night on Tuesday. The judges praised the performance and gave the duo two eights and a nine.
While Amendola and Carson didn’t get the perfect 10 they were hoping for, Carson told Us that they “weren’t disappointed” with their score.
“We’ve got to really work for it and really deserve it, so I’m OK with no 10,” she said. “I was happy with the scores, and I was happy with the way we performed. I think going forward, we want to just really make sure that Danny comes across as a really good dancer and a good contender. So, that’s what we’re going to try and work on this week.”
In the spirit of the Disney Night magic, Amendola and Carson shared the most magical thing about each other.
“Witney is a ray of sunshine,” Amendola gushed. “She makes every day better.”
Carson, meanwhile, praised her partner’s athleticism. “He’s really strong, and he can catch me,” she said. “And I can do fun things and jump on him.”
Amendola’s strength was on display during the pair’s Dedication Night contemporary routine to “Unsteady (Erich Lee Gravity Remix)” by X Ambassadors last week. One of the lifts from the performance has since become a viral TikTok trend as couples try to recreate it at home.
“It’s amazing to get support from the fans. We were cracking up all week,” Amendola told Us of seeing all the TikTok videos. “We put a lot of hard work into that lift, and to see everyone all over the world really trying it out was giving us extra juice all week. It was awesome. We feel very supported, and it’s fun.”
