Longtime “Dancing With the Stars” pro Mark Ballas took a long hiatus from social media in 2024. After the birth of his first son, Banksi, Ballas and his wife, BC Jean, decided to seclude themselves away from the public eye for a bit, giving themselves some peace and added privacy.
“We took a break off social media pretty much, like, was just being home and in it with him. We really wanted that, you know, cause we had a rough go with the first time that she got pregnant and stuff like that. So when this, when he came, we were just like, oh, like, let’s just be, let’s just be here, you know,” Ballas said on the November 26 episode of the “Lightweights” podcast.
Banksi Ballas was born on November 5, 2023. The ballroom pro was absent from Instagram from January 10, 2024, through September 28, 2024.
Mark Ballas Has Been Active on Instagram Since September
Ballas decided to end his Instagram break in September 2024. His first post back was a joint upload with his best pal, Derek Hough. The two were rehearsing a number together in what appears to be the DWTS studios.
A few days later, Ballas was back to let his followers know that he was nominated for a World Choreography Award.
“Thank you @worldchoreographyawards for the nomination. It is an honor to be nominated for a 4th time along side such incredible talent, @dancingwiththestars Thank you for giving me the opportunity to create, choreograph & entertain at this level, I am forever grateful,” his captioned a post.
“& of course Thank you to my partner @charlidamelio I have loved every second of choreographing for you & dancing with you, your hard work & incredible attitude made dances like this one possible. Let’s do more when you finish your Broadway run in @andjulietbway,” he wrote.
His next few posts were uploaded in October and were centered around his guest judging appearance on DWTS season 33.
He may be back on Instagram, but Ballas isn’t exactly ready to share every aspect of his personal life with his fans.
In fact, he’s been keeping his son Banski off of his feed. After announcing the baby’s birth and including a photo of the baby’s arm and hand, Ballas and Jean have done their very best to keep their little one out of the public eye — and off of social media.
Ballas has afforded some sneak peeks of Banski, including a video of him pushing the baby in his stroller and another of him holding his son during a photoshoot.
On the “Lightweights” podcast, Ballas opened up about being a dad.
“I love the morning routine. Love that. Like I go get him in the morning, you know, we do the change the diaper, change the outfit, get him ready for the day, you know, and then I take him to mom and then I go make coffee for mom and I,” he said.
“Now we’re, he’s into rolling balls, like so we have a little soccer ball or a football, as we would say in the UK, which my mom just got him a new one from the Liverpool Stadium, which will be great.
But we roll the ball and now he’s like rolling the ball and I just love it. I love it. He took five steps the other day and I almost cried,” Ballas added.
