“Dancing With the Stars” professional dancer and co-host Julianne Hough has opened up about her life, and fans have applauded her for her bravery in doing so. In an Instagram post made on June 7, she shares some of her more vulnerable moments with fans and what the fertility preservation process involves. This includes her injecting hormones into her stomach, getting an ultrasound, and having her blood pressure checked.
Julianne Hough Opens up About Her Fertility Journey
Hough shared her thoughts in the caption of the video. She started by thanking Los Angeles-based fertility doctor Carolyn Alexander and her team for their care. Hough has been working with them since her second endometriosis laparoscopy surgery in 2017.
The dancer also gave further insight into her fertility journey. “Navigating fertility is never simple, especially with endometriosis and my own personal timeline and hopes around having children,” she wrote. “But with them, I’ve always felt safe, supported, and fully informed.” She continued, “This is my third round of egg freezing. I know it’s not always the most comfortable thing to talk about, let alone share publicly. But I’ve realized how important it is to open up about these things. Women all over the world are quietly walking into doctors’ offices, making huge, brave decisions about their bodies and their futures. It’s one of the most vulnerable experiences… physically, emotionally, and for sure hormonally.”
But why share such a deeply personal thing with fans? Hough commented on why she chose to go public with her story, hoping to inspire and help other women who may find themselves in similar situations.
Fans React With Love & Support for Julianne Hough
The comment section of Hough’s post has been filled with messages of love and support from fans, but also medical professionals. “Board-certified Obgyn here. Thanks so much for sharing this. It is so important that people know what’s really involved,” a comment reads. “It’s not like getting a haircut or a manicure, but it is much more mainstream much more affordable … I believe that every woman in their 20s should be having this conversation with their GYN so that they can be proactive about their fertility rather than reactive about infertility down the road.”
Actresses Jenna Dewan and Bailee Madison commented with red heart emojis. Hough’s fellow DWTS pro, Jenna Johnson, reacted to the post with a bunch of emojis to show her support. Other reactions include, “The more we talk about it, the more powerful we become!,” “So incredibly proud of you for sharing the reality of this journey. Wishing you health and success!!!” and “Inspiring Jules praying for you and your beautiful journey.”
This is not the first time Hough has opened up about her reproductive health after being diagnosed with endometriosis in 2008. “The rough part was that it took a long time to get a proper diagnosis,” Hough told Today in September 2017. “We went to three or four different doctors in the span of three days.”
