Philadelphia Eagles rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean put his athleticism and 4.42 speed on full display in Sunday's 37-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
DeJean came up a with big stop on fourth and 1 in the third quarter, shutting down Bengals star running back Ja'Marr Chase for a loss and a turnover on downs.
The former Iowa product has seen action in just three games for the Birds on defense so far this season, but his presence has quickly been felt.
In those games, he has been credited with 10 tackles (7 solo) and half a sack.
His early success in the NFL is no surprise considering how hard he has worked and continues to work behind the scenes.
DeJean's defensive backs coach Christian Parker revealed ahead of Week 8 that he and fellow rookie corner Quinyon Mitchell are constantly in his office seeking advice and correcting their mistakes.
The Eagles traded up with the Washington Commanders in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft to grab DeJean at No. 40 overall. However, he was rated to go off the draft board much higher, which is why he is considered a top draft steal.
Before entering the NFL, DeJean was a standout at Iowa where he racked up 120 total tackles, 20 passes defended, and seven interceptions -- including three returned for a touchdown -- in his final two seasons with the Hawkeyes. He was also a star on special teams, returning 31 punts for 406 yards and one touchdown.
