Eagles All-Pro OT Responds to Report Packers Want NFL to Ban ‘Tush Push’

There’s nothing inherently dirty about the Philadelphia Eagles’ infamous “tush push” — the seemingly unstoppable quarterback sneak variation Philly runs on a regular basis — but that hasn’t stopped debates about whether or not the play should be banned.

Sporting one of the biggest and most athletic offensive lines in the NFL (they average 6-foot-6 and 338 pounds), the Eagles are better at executing the “tush push” than any other team in the NFL with the highest success rate over the last three seasons — 90% in 2022, 88.1% in 2023, and 82.4% in 2024 — prompting some teams to take issue with what they perceive to be a competitive advantage for Philadelphia.

Eagles All-Pro OT Responds to Report Packers Want NFL to Ban ‘Tush Push’

“Philly does it better than everyone else; that’s a fact,” NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent said last season. “You won’t want to punish anyone for doing something well. People have tried different things to stop it, have not had success.”

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Green Bay Packers are the latest team to express their frustration about it, submitting a formal proposal to the NFL’s competition committee to outlaw the play.

While many took to social media to agree with the Packers’ sentiment that the play should no longer be allowed, Eagles Lane Johnson used his X account to respond to the public outcry surrounding the “tush push,” posting a tear of joy emoji in response to Russinni’s report.

Green Bay’s petition to ban the play isn’t the first time such drastic action has been discussed.

The NFL competition committee discussed outlawing the play at last year’s league meeting — ultimately deciding against it — but now owners can vote on the Packers’ proposal to ban the play at the league meeting next month.

Twenty-four of the 32 teams would have to vote in favor of banning the play for the motion to go through.

“We do have a club playing-rule proposal around the tush push,” Vincent said at the combine. “It's the way they deemed it, the tush push. ... It's on our agenda. The club proposal is, ‘We need to make some adjustments to that. Is that a viable football play?’”
