Eagles final tight end battle comes down to five names fighting for one spot

One of the most fascinating position battles going into training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles that isn't being talked about as often is the third and final spot at tight end.

Eagles final tight end battle comes down to five names fighting for one spot

The speculation about whether Dallas Goedert would return was squashed when the Eagles restructured his contract for the 2025 season. Grant Calcaterra will once again be the second-string option for the Eagles and may be the successor to Goedert after the year.

That leaves just one more roster spot for the third-string tight end role. Five players will be competing for the final spot, creating an intense battle during training camp.

Who are the five tight ends fighting for the final roster spot?

Two offseason signings will be the favorites to win the third-string job: Kylen Granson and Harrison Bryant. Granson spent the last four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts as the backup tight end. Bryant was also a backup, but played for the Cleveland Browns for four years before joining the Las Vegas Raiders last season.

An interesting choice for the third spot is a guy who hasn't played often, but knows the Eagles franchise well. E.J. Jenkins has played in Philadelphia in 2023 and 2024, but has played for other teams during that time. He's only made one catch in his young NFL career, and that was a seven-yard touchdown in last year's season finale against the New York Giants.

One man to watch out for in training is Nick Muse. He was praised throughout minicamp for his performance on the field. He played for the Minnesota Vikings over the last three years. It's not a guarantee that he gets the third spot, but he will undoubtedly make life tough for Granson, Bryant, and Jenkins.

The only other choice at tight end is Cameron Latu, who has played for the San Francisco 49ers and Browns in each of the last two years. Latu has yet to play in an NFL regular season game and appears to be the biggest odd man out of the group.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni will have some decisions to make regarding whether he wants to go with a veteran like Granson or Bryant, or stick with a familiar face in Jenkins. Muse is intriguing as a sleeper pick for the third spot, but Latu may be a long shot.

All will be decided in training camp with plenty of eyes going to be on the tight ends.
