Eagles have room to add another potential difference-maker to heat up offseason competition

The Philadelphia Eagles have many competitions to look out for this offseason and who gets the starting job at slot wide receiver is one of them.

For now, the Eagles have been working Parris Campbell in the slot with the first-team offense.

But if we're being honest with ourselves, he's not starting material and there's really not anyone else currently on the Eagles that screams a lock at the position. That's why the Eagles should add another wide receiver to heat the competition up even more.

Sure, they immediately signed veteran speedster John Ross after DeVante Parker announced his retirement, but he hasn't played an NFL snap since 2021 and who knows how much he has left in him?

Eagles Should Sign Another Wide Receiver to heat up Offseason Competition

Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team suggests the Eagles turn to free agent wideout Hunter Renfrow, who has the potential to make a "big difference" in Kellen Moore's offense.

"Hunter Renfrow is one receiver still on the market who could make a big difference for the Eagles," Mosher writes. "During the 2021 season, Renfrow caught 103 passes for 1,038 yards for the Raiders as their de facto No. 1 receiver. He dealt with several injuries in 2022 and fell out of favor with Josh McDaniels and company in 2023.

Renfrow played in all 17 games during the 2023 season, and the hope is his recent injuries are in the rear-view mirror. Renfrow is just a slot receiver, but he would be a perfect fit in a Kellen Moore offense that relies on the slot receiver to win 1-on-1 matchups."

Mosher adds that the Eagles could then push Campbell back into a reserve role, making Renfrow the primary slot receiver.

Renfrow, 28, comes with a lot of experience in the slot, though he has plenty playing out wide too, and we know the Eagles love versatility.

Looking back on last year, Renfrow's 2023 season was a disappointing one as he logged just 255 yards and zero touchdowns on 25 receptions. However, he was without Derek Carr and stuck catching throws from rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell.

Renfrow wouldn't have a QB problem in Philly as Jalen Hurts is an automatic massive upgrade.

"There aren't many slot receivers in the league who can win as consistently in man or zone coverage as Renfrow, and surprisingly, he is still available," Mosher writes. "Adding Renfrow could help the Eagles take their offense to the next level, taking some pressure off A.J. Brown and De'Vonta Smith."

The Eagles currently have two open roster spots.

Adding one more receiver to their WR3 offseason competition like Renfrow would do more good than harm.
