Eagles' Josh Uche's early prediction makes Chiefs' Super Bowl win much sweeter

Little did the Philadelphia Eagles know that their Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February would not be their only win against them in 2025.

This offseason, the Eagles let many of their players walk in free agency to collect bigger paychecks elsewhere. Philadelphia would go into the Chiefs' roster to find a solid available player who can make an immediate impact.

The Eagles signed a linebacker Josh Uche on a one-year deal with the idea to help pass rushing off the edge. It's also an opportunity for Uche to shine and capture an even better contract in 2026.

Uche's chance to help revive his career in Philadelphia

CBS Sports writer Chris Trapasso listed five players under the radar and in line to break out in contract years. Trapasso believes Uche perfectly fits Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's defensive scheme.

"If any club can accentuate pass-rushing skill, it's the Eagles. And after losing Josh Sweat and Milton Williams in free agency -- along with now being two years removed from Haason Reddick's presence along the defensive line, the Eagles have some job openings in their second and third waves.

That's precisely where Uche will step in. I believe in his burst, bend and surprising speed-to-power conversion. He won't need to do a variety of things for Vic Fangio -- just rush the passer. By the end of the 2025 campaign, Uche will be in line for a decently lucrative extension."

Uche was a former second-round pick of the New England Patriots in the 2020 NFL Draft. Last season, he was traded from New England to Kansas City for a 2026 sixth-round pick in the middle of the year. In six games with the Chiefs, Uche made 10 tackles.

The Eagles are hoping that Uche can capture the same magic from his 2022 season with the Patriots, when he had a career-high 11.5 sacks. He's only had seven sacks since that season.

At 26, Uche can fit right in as Sweat's replacement off the edge, as he's a fast pass rusher. He's going to have tough competition with Azeez Ojulari, Bryce Huff, and Jalyx Hunt fighting to start the opposite side of Nolan Smith Jr.

Philadelphia intended to sign Uche as a low-risk move for cheap, who could reward the Eagles with a solid edge linebacker. Motivated to land a more lucrative contract in 2026, the Eagles will have a motivated linebacker in Uche.
