Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has already had an outstanding start to 2025, of course leading the team to a 40-22 drubbing of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX back in February. Now he gets to rub shoulders with some of the world's most prominent individuals.
Hurts was named to Time 100 list for the top 100 most influential people in the world on Wednesday. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star was listed in the "Icons" section alongside the likes of actress Demi Moore and actor Adrien Brody.
As part of the announcement, Time gets a peer to write about the selectee and none other than Baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter stepped to the plate to praise Hurts for his resilience.
"I admire how great athletes deal with both success and failure. What Jalen Hurts went through in being benched during the 2018 National Championship game would break a lot of people down. But not Jalen; he focused on what he could control and found a new path to success," Jeter said. "In the NFL, Jalen didn’t let a Super Bowl defeat in 2023 shake his confidence. He used that loss as motivation and kept a picture of himself walking off the field after losing as his phone lock screen."
Hurts shined on football's biggest stage in February as the Eagles prevented a Chiefs three-peat in dominant fashion. He ended up taking home Super Bowl MVP honors at the Superdome that night, passing for 221 yards and two touchdowns through the air while tacking on an additional score on the ground. He also ended up setting the Super Bowl record for QB rushing yards with 72.
The Eagles QB takes the baton from Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, who was named to the Times 100 list in 2023 and 2024 following his prior two Super Bowl victories. Other athletes to join Hurts on the list this year includes Serena Williams, Simone Biles, Breanna Stewart, and Napheesa Collier.
