Eagles rookie Quinyon Mitchell explains why he likes to 'talk a little trash' to his teammates

Philadelphia Eagles rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell isn't as quiet as his new NFL teammates originally thought he was.

The Eagles' 2024 first-round pick did not hold back calling out veteran receiver A.J. Brown for running a "trash" route during mandatory minicamp.

Eagles rookie Quinyon Mitchell explains why he likes to 'talk a little trash' to his teammates

"Q doesn't talk as much. He doesn't really say anything. And, the first words I heard from him was like, 'That route was trash,'" Brown told reporters. "I said, 'What? You don't even talk, and you're talking trash?' It was funny to hear from him."

There's a reason behind Mitchell's trash-talking. He says he pushes his teammates.

“Yeah, yeah, I talk a little trash,” Mitchell said. “Just to push my teammates, compete and when I get that chance and that opportunity, just going out and grinding our good days.”

Mitchell worked with the second-team defense for a majority of OTAs and mandatory minicamp but also took some first-team reps where he held his own, according to several reporters in attendance.

However, he's not quite ready to jump ahead of veterans Isaiah Rodgers or Kelee Ringo on the depth chart just yet.

But with more 1-v-1 opportunities against Brown and DeVonta Smith, there's a chance that Mitchell could be ready to slide into a starting role come Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.

“Whenever I get the chance or opportunity, him (AJ) and DeVonta, two of the best in the game, they’re going to give me great work, so I look forward to it," Mitchell said.

We won't get to see more from Mitchell or the rest of the rookies until the Eagles return from their five-week break and report to training camp on July 23.
