In a world where other NFL teams have mightily struggle to string just 10 wins over the last two years, the Philadelphia Eagles have made that look like a cake walk with how the roster has been built.
Including the season the Eagles won the franchise's first Super Bowl, they have had winning records in seven of the last eight years. They have had 18 seasons with a record over .500 since 200. That's pure dominance.
There have been many faces who have come and gone to build this roster, but Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been the architect behind this project since 2010. Because of the work Roseman has put into this team, the Eagles have earned the distinct label that no other NFL team has entering the 2025 season.
Eagles have best roster and Roseman is the mastermind behind it
NFL.com lead draft writer Eric Edholm recently wrote an article on which rosters are the most complete in the NFL. Thanks to Roseman, the Eagles find themselves right at the top of the list.
"They incurred free-agent losses this offseason befitting of a Super Bowl champion and a franchise that has won 45 games (including playoffs) over the past three years. After all, everyone wants to be like the Eagles. Yet even with some departures, primarily on the defensive side, the team remains set up to compete for a title again thanks to the brilliant craftsmanship of GM Howie Roseman.
But all told, Philly has terrific top-of-the-roster talent with 10 or more players capable of landing in theNFL Top 100 this summer, along with ample depth at certain spots. If the star players stay relatively healthy again, there’s no reason why the Eagles can’t win it all for a second straight year."
Starting on offense, the man leading the way the quarterback Jalen Hurts, has continued to be overlooked despite having a career high in completion percentage (68.7%) and quarterback rating (103.7). Hurts has the offensive weapons around him, including Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert, that make this unit unstoppable. It also helps to have the best offensive line in the NFL.
There are some questions about the defense entering the 2025 season, but that doesn't mean the young talent on the roster isn't prepared to continue carrying the torch of the number one ranked defense in the NFL from a season ago. Up front, Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis have established themselves as the best defensive tackle tandem in the league. Zack Baun was electric at linebacker after a breakout 2024 campaign that almost got him Defensive Player of the Year. Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Reed Blankenship have the secondary in Philadelphia on lockdown for the next five years.
What do most of these players have in common? Outside of Goedert, all the players that have been mentioned were drafted or signed onto the team since 2020. Roseman's eye for talent brought these guys in the building.
Credit has to be given to the head coach, Nick Sirianni, as well, for building the right culture for the franchise. Sirianni has set the standard over the last four years, emphasizing that winning is all that matters, as the Eagles have yet to have a losing record under his leadership.
This roster doesn't have the same players it did last year when they went 14-3 and won the Super Bowl, but there is plenty of talent to make another run in 2025.
