The NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed the most coveted New York Rangers player on the trade market.
It's no secret that the New York Rangers are nowhere near reaching the expectations set by fans, media, and management going in the second half of the season.
After 40 games, the Blueshirts have an 18-20-2 record, only one point ahead of the New York Islanders, who are at the eighth spot in the Metropolitan Division.
General manager Chris Drury made significant changes by trading Jacob Trouba and Kaapo Kakko, but the team seems poised to make further modifications to the roster at the trade deadline if players can't turn things around.
They have many interesting assets that could move on March 7th, depending on if the organization decides to buy or sell at the deadline.
Among them, Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider could bring an interesting return to the team, but there's another one that is getting a lot of attention from other NHL organizations: Vincent Trocheck.
However, it appears the Rangers aren't willing to trade him, and could even name him as the next team captain.
Elliotte Friedman confirmed the news in a recent declaration on 32 Thoughts:
Trocheck, 31, has 27 points, including 13 goals, in 40 games with the Rangers so far this season.
He's been one of the steadiest players on the Rangers' lineup this year, and his bosses have noticed it, so did all the other teams across the league.
In his career, he took part in 759 regular season games for the Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Rangers. He tallied 546 points, including 210 goals, with a +7 goal differential since being drafted 64th overall by the Florida Panthers in 2011.
Many organizations would love to add a player like Trocheck ahead of the playoffs, and if the Rangers get an offer they can't refuse, they could change their mind.
