Erin Andrews Fires Back After Jalen Hurts Super Bowl Controversy

Heading into Super Bowl 59, Fox Sports NFL reporter Erin Andrews wanted to switch things up.

Mindful of her sometimes loud and rapid question-asking technique, Andrews made a conscious effort to slow things down and ask more deliberate, composed questions while doing her postgame interview with the winning team.

The problem is some fans took her change in delivery the wrong way. Some called Andrews’ interview with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts cringey on social media while others stated it was an uncomfortable watch.

A few NFL fans even accused Andrews of being biased toward the Kansas City Chiefs and expressing disappointment when they didn’t win. Andrews responded to her critics in a recent episode of her “Calm Down” podcast, which she hosts with close friend and fellow NFL reporter Charissa Thompson.

“I saw somebody — [expletive] the internet trolls — ‘You could tell Erin in her Jalen Hurts interview was disappointed that Kansas City didn't win,’” Andrews said. “I'm disappointed both teams didn't win.

"I actually was trying to slow down, be chill instead of being like, ‘Jalen, what does it mean?’ I was trying to be calm because he's [expletive] calm. He's not crazy and rah rah. So I was like…you don't want the high-pitched voice. Whatever, I was chill.”

Thompson had Andrews’ back, agreeing that those criticizing her simply complaining for the sake of complaining.

“You’re [expletive] if you and [expletive] if don't,” Thompson added. “If you show that you're excited, then you're too excited. If you aren't excited enough — by the way, that's how I empathize with these athletes on that. It's like you can't [expletive] win for nothing.”

Hurts completed 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, and added 71 yards rushing and another touchdown. He was named Super Bowl MVP for his efforts.
