Miami quarterback Cam Ward is seen by many to be a lock for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. But some people might be hyping him up just a bit too much.
On a recent episode of Get up on ESPN, host Kevin Clark made a very bold take about Ward and one of the best quarterbacks to every step foot on the gridiron, Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes.
"As a prospect, [Cam Ward] is the closest thing to Patrick Mahomes since Patrick Mahomes," Clark said.
That is quite an announcement and quite the label to put on someone who is about to be a rookie in the NFL, but it is not the first time that someone has said this about a potential first overall pick.
Just last year, people were saying that current Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams reminded them of Mahomes because of the way that he improvised and made tough throws look effortless.
But here's the thing: not everyone can be as good as Mahomes is, and that is okay. Ward is a tremendous talent, and could very well be a great NFL quarterback. But comparing someone to one of the best to ever play the game of football is a bit much considering he has not yet played a single snap in the pros.
The Titans will likely take Ward with the first overall pick in the upcoming draft. And while they would love it if he did turn out like Mahomes, nobody is by any means expecting him to.
