ESPN Reveals Stat Predictions for Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes says Chiefs will push ball downfield in 2024 - ESPN

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has already established himself as one of the greatest ever in the NFL. Where he sits among the league's elite could be up for debate according to some, but there's no doubt he's right near the top.

After a 2023 season that saw Mahomes have his lowest passing yards total (4,183) and touchdowns (27) since 2019 while having a career-high interception total (14) and his lowest-ever QBR (63.1), there is a hope that with new weapons in Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy, Mahomes' stats would increase.

But ESPN's Mike Clay thinks otherwise. In his 2024 projection for Mahomes, the Chiefs appear to take the ball out of Mahomes' hand, but this leads to better output.

Patrick Mahomes 2024 projection: 4,031 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, 11 interceptions.

Based on Clay's projections, Mahomes will have 47 fewer pass attempts and 37 fewer completions. But he will have more touchdowns and fewer interceptions than he did in 2023.

Additionally, Mahomes will equal his lowest-ever passing yards total (4,031), which he had back in 2019, so despite the improved weapons, he's projected to not take full advantage of them next season.

Now, this is just a projection, and there's every chance that Mahomes will light up the league again and have a far better statistical season in 2024. With the Chiefs chasing history by becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowls, we imagine that Mahomes won't care about his stats as long as his team wins.

It will be interesting to see how the season pans out, and if Clay's projection does come to fruition and the Chiefs take the ball out of Mahomes' hands, what will become of Kansas City in 2024?
