Evander Holyfield Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Deontay Wilder Would KO Prime Mike Tyson

Deontay Wilder and Mike Tyson can be considered two of the most ferocious and destructive heavyweights in history.

Tyson still holds the record as the division’s youngest champion and blasted through his first 37 fights before a shock loss to Buster Douglas. He would regain his knockout form after a prison stint but tail off towards the end of his career.

Wilder went 43 fights undefeated, winning 41 by knockout, before losing to Mike’s namesake Tyson Fury. Since then, he has scored a stoppage over Robert Helenius but lost to both Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

A fantasy match-up between the pair would likely last only a few rounds, if that, and Evander Holyfield – who twice beat Tyson – told Mail Sport Boxing confidently that his former foe would beat Wilder.

Wilder’s feelings on Tyson have been up and down in the past. He once ranted on Instagram about Tyson’s record and how he was regarded in the history books.

“Folks, half of you don’t know your history. When it comes to the sport of boxing, let’s face it. You do not know your history… We love Mike Tyson, of course… We love them all. They did a great job. But go back and look up your facts… If you go back. I want somebody to answer this question: How many Hall of Fame fighters did Mike Tyson actually fight?

“Thank you. Only two. Holyfield beat him twice, and Lennox beat him. Only two. So, what are you all talking about? Now you go back and look up your history! – Everybody else was scared. They weren’t any Hall of Famers!”

However, more recently ‘The Bronze Bomber’ expressed concern for ‘Iron’ Mike before his return against Jake Paul. Thankfully, the 58-year-old managed the eight-round distance unscathed and has now retired for good.

As for Wilder, he has confirmed he will fight on despite the back-to-back losses to Parker and Zhang.
