Tyson was and remains the division’s youngest ever champion, famous for striking fear into the hearts of his opponents before unleashing ferocious, fast and fight-ending shots. Though he arguably missed his prime years due to a prison sentence, most feel that on his day he would be a tough night for any man.
Frazier – who retired four years before ‘Iron’ Mike kicked off his professional campaign – was the first man to defeat ‘The Greatest,’ Muhammad Ali.
How a fantasy bout would play out between the two undisputed champions will be forever up for debate, but there is no question that it would be a thriller. Both pressure fighters with devastating power, whether or not Tyson could crack the solid chin of his opponent before ‘Smokin’ Joe’s stamina and grit came into play would be the big question.
In a round of winner stays on with Mail Sport Boxing, fellow boxing great Evander Holyfield backed Tyson to beat Frazier, as well as George Foreman and the Klitschko brothers.
Holyfield also missed out on the challenge of Frazier, but did beat Tyson twice, the second time via disqualification in the infamous ‘bite fight.’ Despite the bad blood back then, the pair have since formed a friendship and are complimentary of one another, as evidenced above.
When describing Tyson as a fighter, ‘The Real Deal’ said he was ‘like a snake.’
“Mike is like a snake. He will pop out on you, but if you charge him, you can smother him. Because he pushes off his legs, he is too close. If you give him room, you are going to be messed up.”
