ABC has been hyping up the new season of Bachelor In Paradise. The spinoff was yanked from the TV schedule for the 2024 season due to low ratings and unsuccessful romances. But it’s back this year and better than ever. The show doesn’t premiere until July but some fans are already disappointed. Why?
Bachelor In Paradise Gets Love Island-Type Makeover
The Bachelor franchise was a pioneer for reality TV dating shows back in 2002. Other reality TV dating shows came and went, but the ABC franchise succeeded beyond the network’s wildest imagination. In fact, it was so popular that it led to multiple spinoffs, including The Bachelorette, Bachelor Pad, The Golden Bachelor, and The Golden Bachelorette.
Bachelor Pad lasted for three seasons before it was canceled in 2012. Bachelor In Paradise premiered in 2014. It was similar to Bachelor Pad but the ultimate goal was to get engaged, not win a cash prize like the previous spinoff.
Bachelor In Paradise actually has the highest success rate for marriages in the franchise, but Season 9 ended in multiple broken engagements. The plunge in ratings led ABC to put the show on pause for a year while they reworked the format.
Several networks and streaming services have debuted dating shows in the last few years. Netflix has Too Hot To Handle, Love Is Blind, and more. Love Island USA began airing on CBS in 2019. It moved to Peacock streaming in 2022 and has flourished there. Vanderpump Rules alum Ariana Madix took over from actress Sarah Hyland as host for Season 6. Season 7 started airing on the streaming service earlier this month.
Viewers found the format refreshing. The new Bachelor In Paradise season takes some of the format from the other show, including upscale digs.
ABC just released a teaser announcing the Week 1 contestants on Bachelor In Paradise. Many viewers thought it closely resembled a Love Island promo.
New Format Grosses Fans Out
You can’t tell from the trailer, but senior citizens will join the younger cast on this season of Bachelor In Paradise. Golden Bachelor runner-up Leslie Fhima and Golden Bachelorette contestant Gary Levington are the only two announced so far. Since they aren’t in the trailer, fans assume they won’t show up in the first week.
However, Jesse Palmer recently spoke out and said he hopes to see romance between a Golden contestant and a younger one. Fans of the show expressed disgust at the idea in March when it was first revealed the Golden contestants would be on the beach.
Fans Already Disappointed In Season 10
But the possibility of an age-gap romance isn’t why fans are disappointed in Season 10. Bachelor Nation fans took to social media to react to the BIP cast list revealed so far. Many fans were underwhelmed by the names and had trouble even remembering most of the contestants aside from Dale Moss, Kat Izzo, and Justin Glaze.
Several fans shared their disappointment in the network tapping contestants from the most recent Bachelorette and Bachelor seasons. They’d hoped to see contestants from older seasons.
7 men from Jenn’s season in general is crazy work. It’s arguably one of the worst cast of men,” one fan wrote on social media. Another added, “Who are like 90% of these people?”
A third fan summed it up. “I do not care about any of these people,” they wrote.
Bachelor In Paradise premieres on ABC on Monday, July 7th, at 8 PM Eastern. Do you agree that the cast for Season 10 is disappointing?
