“Following in Dad’s Footsteps”: Robert Irwin Honors Late Steve Irwin with Adventurous ‘Croc Trip’ Tribute

"Dancing with the Stars” Season 34 competitor Robert Irwin will be putting on his dance shoes next month to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy. Many stars already believe he will be one of the frontrunners this season because he is so likable, and he may even be the second member of the Irwin family to win the ABC dance competition, after his sister, Bindi Irwin, won Season 19.

Robert’s time on the show will also help him spread awareness for wildlife conservation, a cause close to his heart. As the son of Steve Irwin and Terri Irwin, the importance of conservation and animal welfare is something that has been instilled in him since childhood.

Robert Irwin’s Work With Crocodiles Is Reminiscent of His Beloved Father Steve Irwin

Robert gave fans a glimpse into what he has been up to in a post on Instagram on August 8.

One of the pictures that caught attention shows Robert posing with a crocodile. His late father was affectionately referred to as “The Crocodile Hunter,” and in this post, Robert appears to be channeling Steve. In the caption, he wrote, “So far so good… Croctrip2025.”

Fans have reacted to the post with messages of support. “These are absolutely beautiful pictures and great videos! Thank you so much for sharing all this,” a comment reads. “Like father like son! Keep up the good work Rob!!” another person shared.

“It’s so admirable that there is truly someone who cares about animals. You’re also super cute, Robert, a true inspiration to follow,” a third fan wrote.

Robert’s mother, Terri, also showed her support. “Top of the world!” she commented.

Robert Irwin Promotes Crocodile Science

On August 11, Robert shared a video on Instagram of himself holding a caramel-colored crocodile. This time, he wrote a message in the caption about what this moment means to him. “Finding a ‘caramel’ crocodile in the wild. What an unforgettable experience and so valuable for croc science,” he wrote.

In the video, he refers to the crocodile as “the most amazing creature” that he has “ever gotten to witness.” He continued, “This is a crocodile unlike any other … I’m honestly speechless. I’ve never seen a croc like this, let alone in the wild.” As for why the crocodile is that color? Robert revealed it is a form of leucism, and there is “zero black pigment coming through,” which creates the unique shade.
