Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco is trying to recreate the same kind of story that he did last year in Northeast Ohio.
Flacco will once again have a chance to be the starting quarterback for a team that wants to get to the playoffs. The Indianapolis Colts opted to bench quarterback Anthony Richardson and turn to Flacco, who they have to believe gives them the better chance to win at this point.
Last season the Browns won 11 games and reached the wildcard round of the playoffs. That does not happen if they don’t bring in Flacco. His impact on the offense changed things clearly.
Joe Flacco is now the guy for the Indianapolis Colts
Including the playoffs, Flacco was 4-2 as the starter for the Browns last season when. The final game was a blowout loss to the Houston Texans in the playoffs, but the Browns were lucky to even get there with the year of injuries that they had. Things looked hopeless at one time with a struggling offense that watched P.J. Walker and Dorian Thompson-Robinson both try to replace Deshaun Watson after he injured his shoulder.
Flacco threw for 1,313 yards and 13 touchdowns in the five regular season games. The veteran quarterback is going to throw it all over the field and spread it around to everyone. Flacco is prone to turn the ball over quite a bit and he did that last season with the Browns. Still, he elevated the offense enough and you have to live with the fact that he’s going to throw interceptions.
The Colts are 4-4 on the season and they have to believe that Richardson hasn’t been good enough to keep out there. Turning to Flacco could be their best win-now move, but is a very questionable move for the development of their former first-round pick Richardson.
Cleveland fans really grasped onto Flacco as a player after what he did for the team last season. Many folks wanted the Browns to resign him, but Cleveland opted to bring in Jameis Winston and that looks like the right move so far. Flacco has a chance to do that exact thing once again with another fanbase and that is a cool story at 39 years old.
