Former Chiefs quarterback gives verdict on where Patrick Mahomes ranks among current NFL rivals

There have been many great quarterbacks but few superstars. There are even fewer players who can call themselves any variation of GOAT.

Patrick Mahomes Addresses Physical Changes Ahead Of 2019 Season - The Spun

The Super Bowl is over. The Kansas City Chiefs have lost their chance at the three-peat. After more than a year of wondering if Patrick Mahomes can accomplish something Tom Brady never did with the New England Patriots, we now know the answer.

It turns out that the nearly best free-agent signing in history Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, Nick Sirianni, and others were enough to overcome Patrick Mahomes. The epic implosion by the team was one outcome not many expected going into the game.

Even now, experts like Dan Orlovsky are working to understand Mahomes’ loss to Jalen Hurts and the fallout from it. One of the biggest pieces of fallout might be that some are throwing their Mahomes-Brady comparisons in the trash.

Chase Daniel declares his pick for baby GOAT

Speaking on a February 11 edition of “The Facility,” former Chiefs backup Chase Daniel refused to call Patrick Mahomes the ultimate “GOAT,” but called him the “baby GOAT.”

Daniel also believes Mahomes is still the current best quarterback in the NFL.

“Not saying he’s going to be the goat. He’s the baby goat right now, though, like in people will say that the last two years of Patrick Mahomes’ career statistically were his worst years of his career yet he’s 1-1 in Super Bowls, he’s been to back to back Super Bowls,” he said.

“He’s the only quarterback to ever get their team to a chance to be back to back to back. So, look, I get it. Because of one game, I can’t knock them off the pedestal … I clearly think that Mahomes is still the best quarterback,” he declared.

Basically, Daniel declared that Mahomes was the best quarterback in the league who might catch Tom Brady one day, but that day wasn’t here yet.

Patrick Mahomes never should have been compared to Tom Brady in the first place

After the Chiefs beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl, some analysts put Mahomes on a level with Tom Brady. However, it was far too early to make such a comparison. Brady had more Super Bowl appearances, more Super Bowl wins, more career touchdowns and more career passing yards. He also had more total wins.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes is still in his 20s and lagging behind in every category. Not only that, but Mahomes never eliminated Brady from the playoffs. Brady eliminated Mahomes twice, including once in a Super Bowl.

Not only that, but Mahomes now is winless against quarterbacks who have started a Super Bowl before. He lost to Tom Brady when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and now he has lost to Jalen Hurts, who has now played in two Super Bowls.

Perhaps for the first time in his career, the Chiefs passer has a monkey on his back. Will he manage to throw it off as soon as it arrives?
