Former Eagles DT Fletcher Cox called out Philly's defense before Monday night's loss to Falcons

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox did not hesitate to call out his former team before they fell 22-21 on Monday Night Football to the Atlanta Falcons.

The three-time All-Pro told 94WIP on Monday afternoon before kickoff that he even went as far as to send some of his old teammates a text message following their Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers.

"I went and looked at some things, I texted a couple of guys and said, ‘Y’all have to be better than this,'" Cox said. "For a team to average, I think 7.8 yards a carry, that’s not Philadelphia’s defense. It’s Week 1, but it’s unacceptable.”

The Eagles allowed 410 total yards, including 163 rushing yards, in Week 1 and struggled to protect the football with three turnovers.

They also missed the mark on several tackles, though head coach Nick Sirianni put some of the blame on the slippery field in Brazil.

This week against the Falcons, however, Sirianni couldn't blame the field.

The Eagles gave up 385 total yards, including 152 rushing yards, and had one turnover. According to Pro Football Focus, the Eagles missed 12 tackles with six different defenders missing at least one.

It's only two weeks into the 2024 NFL season, but there's an obvious weak spot in the Eagles' defense that they need to fix quickly, or the New Orleans Saints and running back Alvin Kamara are going to have a field day against them on Sunday.
