He was originally taken by the Edmonton Oilers with the 21st overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, but never played for them as he opted instead to play at Cornell University.
Thanks to a strong freshman year, Nash would earn Cornell University Hockey Rookie of the Year honors and was also selected to the 2007-08 College Hockey News All-Rookie Team.
In 2010, Nash was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, where he would spend the next several years. While he initially split time between Carolina and their AHL affiliate Charlotte Checkers, he was a regular in the Hurricanes' lineup by the start of 2013-14.
He later signed a 2-year deal with the Boston Bruins, and would reach a new career-best 41 points (15G, 26A) in 76 games in 2017-18.
Nash then spent time with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and Arizona Coyotes. He then signed a 2-way deal with the New York Rangers in 2023, and spent the majority of the year with the AHL affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack.
