The defensive master and pay-per-view star won titles in five weight classes during his record-breaking campaign, beating the likes of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.
Mayweather bowed out on a fight with UFC star Conor McGregor, a box office smash that added a new dimension to the sport that continues today. He has since faced the likes of Logan Paul, John Gott III and Tenshin Nasukawa in exhibition bouts, travelling the globe to earn serious money without breaking a sweat.
A pro return has been discussed but usually dismissed by the man himself, however George Kambosos Jr has now revealed that he was offered that very bout.
Responding via X, formerly Twitter, to a report that he could fight rising lightweight star Floyd Schofield, the former unified champion at 135 pounds claimed he had been in takes with ‘Money’ Mayweather’s team.
“I actually was offered Floyd Mayweather not some guy from Prison Break … Yes in Australia, big stadium fight.”
Yes in Australia big stadium fight 😉

When the offer was made is unclear, though Kambosos seems to have either declined or watched it fall through.
The Aussie has co-starred in some huge fights, the most successful being an upset win over Teofimo Lopez to become unified lightweight world champion. He then lost in his bid to become undisputed against Devin Haney and failed to pick up a vacant belt against Ukraine’s Vasily Lomachenko.
Kambosos has since moved up to super lightweight, making his debut with a points win over Jake Wyllie this past weekend and likely now heading towards a shot at IBF Champion Richardson Hitchins.
