The Las Vegas Raiders are eyeing a quick turnaround this season, and their moves so far this offseason have confirmed that notion.
After going 4-13 in a 2024 season, the Raiders fired head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco. Searching for a new regime to bring in a franchise quarterback, they landed on former Super Bowl-winning head coach Pete Carroll and Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant GM John Spytek. Together, they devised a plan to attack the offseason, most notably bringing in Geno Smith in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks earlier in March.
The Raiders have their answer at quarterback, and recent videos now suggest another solution is forming to upgrade the roster.
Smith featured in a viral workout with a high-profile free agent receiver.
In an X post on Sunday, Smith was in a video working out with former Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
Formerly with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, Diggs was a part of the Texans receiving corps this season. While a torn ACL ended his 2024 after just eight games, his track record of success makes him an interesting buy-low candidate at this point in free agency. With his recovery looking on track, developing any form of chemistry with Smith could go a long way towards convincing the Raiders to take a one-year flier on the veteran.
Diggs is far from the prime of his career, but the Raiders do not have many reliable options in the passing game.
Outside of tight end Brock Bowers and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, no receiver from the Raiders inspires much confidence. Tight end Michael Mayer is still on the trade block, and Carroll would likely not want to get caught relying on a continued breakout from wide receiver Tre Turner as his only plan for another option in the passing attack. Diggs allows the Raiders to have another steadying veteran presence outside, keeping defenses honest and avoiding double or triple coverage on Bowers or Meyers.
Diggs was always a name worth considering for the Raiders this offseason, and his workout with Smith makes him a much more interesting target.
