George Foreman Didn't Hesitate When Asked If Floyd Mayweather Beats Prime Sugar Ray Leonard - Seconds Out

Mayweather and Leonard set the sport alight throughout their respective tenures, but a showdown between the pair can only be dreamt of by boxing fans and critics alike who are left wondering who would have been victorious.

The majority of ‘Sugar’ Ray’s success came during the 1980s where he racked up career defining victories against Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Marvelous Marvin Hagler, winning world titles across multiple weight classes in the process.

‘Money’ Mayweather is often credited with being one of, if not the greatest fighter of the 21st century. He remained unbeaten for the duration of his tenure, defeating all 50 of his opponents including Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao to name a few.

Speaking in a fan forum, former world heavyweight champion Foreman broke down a fantasy fight between Leonard and Mayweather, but admits he would lean more towards a victory for ‘Money’ if he had to be set on choosing a winner.

“It took years for Floyd to achieve such greatness. Prime versus prime [I’d go for Sugar Ray] Leonard. But veteran versus veteran, [I’d go for Floyd] Mayweather.”

Mayweather walked away from the professional side of the sport in 2017 after stopping MMA fighter Conor McGregor in the tenth round of their huge crossover bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It’s been 28 years since ‘Sugar’ Ray called time on his career, with his final outing coming against the late-great Hector Camacho who stopped him in the fifth round of their bout in 1997.
