Gerry Turner Update Revealed: ‘Stopped Him in His Tracks’

An update on “Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner’s cancer battle says that he is past the “denial” stage.

That’s according to a source who spoke with Life & Style. “Obviously, it’s a terrible thing that stopped him in his tracks,” the source told the magazine.

“He was considered in excellent health and he was so active in sports like pickleball and golf, but he’s over the denial phase and wanting to help others with this disease by sharing his experience,” the source told Life & Style.

“There’s a topic that I haven’t wanted to talk about until now,” he told People. “I think it’s time, also because it probably will clear up a lot of mystery around what happened back in February, March and April.”

“As Theresa and I were trying very hard to find our lifestyle and where we were going to live and how we were going to make our life work, I was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer,” he shared with the magazine.

Turner was diagnosed with a slow-growing bone marrow cancer, People reported. Turner and Theresa Nist filed for divorce just a few months after their televised wedding.

“Finally I got around to going [to the doctor] and the orthopedic surgeon said, ‘Yeah Gerry, there’s not much we can do for your shoulder, but there are some unusual blood markers here,'” he recalls. “And so an orthopedic surgeon went to my family doctor, my family doctor referred me to an oncologist, and now I’m working with a hematology-oncology group in Fort Wayne.”

He told the magazine that the cancer doesn’t have a cure.

“Unfortunately, there’s no cure for it. So that weighs heavily in every decision I make,” he told People. “It was like 10 tons of concrete were just dropped on me. And I was a bit in denial for a while, I didn’t want to admit to it.”

Turner has been posting on his Instagram page about attending charity events. He also posted a picture showing him dancing with a family member.
