Golden State Warriors: Intriguing Stat Points to Potentially Beautiful Partnership Between Steph Curry and 1 Outstanding Shooter

Buddy Hield, not Stephen Curry, has made the most three-pointers in the last five seasons

It’s been a rough week for the Golden State Warriors and their fans.

While many had an inkling that Klay Thompson would make an early exit from the Dubs, fans were still stunned when he formally left Golden State in a sign-and-trade with the Dallas Mavericks.

The sight of Klay walking out the door affected everyone, as made evident by Stephen Curry’s heartfelt message to his former teammate.

The move also opened the floodgates on any potential moves the Dubs could pull off. The Dubs can look an entirely different team by the time preseason starts due to how drastic Thompson’s departure was.

One of the players who might be wearing the Golden State jersey next season is Buddy Hield. He’s one of the first names tapped to take Thompson’s place on the roster. Some may feel that moving on from Klay is too soon, but there’s a good reason why they’re being linked with the Philadelphia 76ers sharpshooter.

Buddy Hield can match Stephen Curry’s 3PT productivity in the Golden State Warriors

StatMuse posted an interesting statistic that would make Golden State fans cautiously excited over the future of the franchise should they finalize the Buddy Hield trade:

The statistic shows just how elite of a three-point shooter Hield is. He can easily take Thompson’s place as a catch-and-shoot weapon from beyond the arc.

CBS Sports’ Brad Botkin provided stats on how great of a sniper Hield was in 2022-23, numbers that still ring true today:

Last season, Hield hit 45.8% of his spot-up jumpers (91st percentile, per Synergy), 42% of his pull-up 3s, 41.5% of his catch-and-shoots, 61% of his step-back 3s, and 42.5% of his overall 3s — including 41.3% from above the break, 51.1% from the right corner and 45.7% from the left corner.

Hield has been lethal from deep his entire career. He’s averaging 40.0% from deep his entire career, only a couple of points behind Curry’s 42.6% . He also decent playmaking chops that will allow Curry and Steve Kerr to run the Warriors’ usual plays.

Should the Golden State Warriors be able to pull this deal off, they have the potential to cause all kinds of trouble across the league.
