The Golden State Warriors star has been suggested as the one the Miami Heat would want in a Jimmy Butler trade situation.
Jimmy Butler has ticked all the boxes going into the 2024-25 season. Even after two trips to the NBA Finals and a Hall of Fame career, he seems to be playing with a chip on his shoulder at the age of 35 after the Miami Heat did not hand him an extension over the offseason.
Butler deserves a ton of credit for the attitude he has showcased so far. He looks ready to play his way to an extension in Miami.
At the same time, the possibility of him being traded in the future is a very real one as well. But in that scenario, where would Butler land?
He has made it very clear that he is focused on winning at this point in his career. And incidentally, the Golden State Warriors have been linked with Butler in recent months.
When asked on Gil's Arena whether Butler would be a good fit on the Warriors and how much he would move the needle for them, Rashad McCants suggested that Jonathan Kuminga would have to be part of the trade. He said: "Is he not a young Jimmy Butler, Kuminga?"
Gilbert Arenas added: "I don't see, I mean do you see Pat Riley going after anybody else on that team? I want him."
Kuminga had a standout 2023-24 season and finally took the leap that had always been expected of him. At the same time, it feels like there are still a few more gears that he could unlock in the future.
He is certainly one of the most athletically gifted youngsters in the league right now and at 22 years of age, he would fit the Heat's timeline.
On the other hand, the Warriors need to be in 'win now' mode. Steph Curry is in the twilight years of his career and he would be looking to win a fifth ring in the Bay Area.
