There are very few teams in the NFL that have had a recent run of success at the quarterback position quite like the Green Bay Packers. After acquiring now Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre via trade from the Atlanta Falcons in 1992, Green Bay has enjoyed over 30 years of exceptional play at the position.
Favre, of course, was the Packers starting quarterback for 15 seasons, led the team to victory in Super Bowl XXXI, and became the first player in NFL history to win the MVP Award three times. He was succeeded by Aaron Rodgers, who many argue was an even greater quarterback.
Rodgers, though now a polarizing figure in the NFL, won four NFL MVP Awards, has set numerous NFL passing records, and is a future Pro Football Hall of Famer himself.
Now, Jordan Love is Green Bay’s starter under center, and Favre believes that his former team is going to experience a great deal of success as he continues the legacy of stellar quarterback play in Green Bay.
While Favre himself was not a huge fan of Rodgers being drafted to be his successor, it appears that he has taken a liking to Love, who was drafted to succeed Rodgers. After the two collaborated at a recent signing event, the three-time NFL MVP posted on X (formerly Twitter):
“The Packers are in good hands with Jordan Love at the helm,” Favre wrote. “Should be an interesting season with the development of all these young QBs improving.”
While Love played through injuries in 2024, a la Favre, the former Packers quarterback has good reason to believe that he can continue to long legacy of the team’s stellar quarterback play.
Just look how Love fared compared to his two predecessors in their first seasons as Green Bay’s starting quarterback:
Quarterback | Completion % | Yards | Touchdowns | Interceptions | Passer Rating |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Jordan Love | 64.2% | 4,159 | 32 | 11 | 96.1 |
Aaron Rodgers | 63.6% | 4,038 | 28 | 13 | 93.8 |
Brett Favre | 64.1% | 3,227 | 18 | 13 | 85.3 |
Of course, Love has a long way to go until he can be considered a Hall of Fame quarterback, and perhaps he will not get there. That being said, Green Bay and its former players certainly seem to think the team has a great one under center right now.
