Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali are two of the greatest heavyweights to have ever laced up the gloves.
Both fighters enjoyed outstanding professional careers, culminating in them winning the world heavyweight championship a combined six times between them.
The majority of Ali’s success came during the 1960s and 1970s, where he picked up career defining victories over the likes of Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier and George Foreman, defeating the latter in one of boxing’s most iconic match-ups, ‘The Rumble In The Jungle’.
Tyson rose to stardom in the mid-1980s, with his crowning moment coming in 1986 when he defeated Trevor Berbick to capture the WBC heavyweight title and become the youngest heavyweight champion in history, an incredible record which still stands today.
In a feature with TMZ Sports, former opponent of both men Larry Holmes gave an honest account of how he believes a fantasy fight between Ali and ‘Iron’ Mike would have played out.
“Mike Tyson would get beat up ’cause he’s a face fighter. He comes in down low, and Muhammad Ali is a jabber. He’d get that jab in there just like he did with Joe Frazier. So, Mike Tyson would have to get around that jab, and he’d have a lot of problems getting around that jab.”
“Mike Tyson would’ve been knocked out by Muhammad Ali.”
Ali was defeated by Holmes in the penultimate contest of his career back in October 1980, suffering a tenth round knockout loss at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Holmes received criticism for facing Ali after it was reportedly made common knowledge that the health of ‘The Greatest’ had began to rapidly decline in the build-up to the bout.
