‘TNT’ clashed with ‘Iron’ Mike in March 1988, suffering defeat for the second time in his career as he was blasted out in the second round by the formidable Tyson who kept a hold of his undisputed heavyweight championship with another ferocious display.
Tubbs went on to face ‘Big Daddy’ three years later, taking the former undisputed heavyweight champion all the way in a ten-round contest which was won unanimously by Bowe, extending his unbeaten record to 23-0.
In a feature with The Ring Magazine, Tubbs was asked to name the best overall fighter he faced during his tenure, revealing ‘Iron’ Mike as the best of the bunch.
“I’d say Tyson. I was 30, Tyson was 21. He was in his prime, he was a force of nature.”
Tyson is still regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight fighters in boxing history, having held the world heavyweight championship between the years of 1987 and 1990.
The 58-year-old from New York City burst onto the scene in the early 80s, going on to become the youngest heavyweight champion in history when he knocked out Trevor Berbick in the 2nd-round of their showdown in 1986.
‘Iron’ Mike made a sensational return to the sport last November when he faced YouTube sensation Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
It was the first time in 19 years that the heavyweight legend had taken part in an officially sanctioned professional fight, losing an eight-round decision which was scored unanimously in favour of ‘The Problem Child’.
