Sharna Burgess is feeling all the emotions as her son Zane adjusts to life as a big brother and meets his baby sister for the first time.
The Dancing with the Stars alum, 39, tells PEOPLE exclusively that Zane, her son with fiancé Brian Austin Green, 51, has already bonded with the newest member of their extended family. The baby girl was recently welcomed by Green’s ex, Megan Fox, and musician Machine Gun Kelly.
“Of course he’s met her — that’s his baby sister,” Burgess says. “They’re deeply in love. She is the absolute cutest thing, and it’s really beautiful.”
Burgess adds that watching all of the children come together, including Green’s four older sons from previous relationships, has been a heartwarming experience.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum shares son Kassius, 23, with ex-girlfriend Vanessa Marcil and sons Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 8, with ex-wife Fox.
Fox and MGK, who began dating in 2020 after meeting on the set of Midnight in the Switchgrass, confirmed the birth of their daughter earlier this year. Though the pair have faced ups and downs in their relationship, they’ve remained focused on co-parenting their new baby girl.
“We have such a big family,” Burgess says. “When I was a kid, and even when I was manifesting my life, I wanted a big family. And then I got to a point where I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll only get to have one baby because of age, ovaries, you know, all the things.’ But somehow the universe still provided this unbelievably big family and tribe with amazing kids in it.”
Burgess explains that Zane is growing up surrounded by love and plenty of older siblings to look up to.
“He has such a big, beautiful tribe around him, and it’s really cool,” she says. “We’re all so very lucky. The kids are amazing and they’ve become built-in babysitters. The age gap actually works really well. We’re thrilled.”
As for Zane’s personality, Burgess says he’s currently in what she jokingly calls his “dictator stage.”
“I have a 3-year-old and he’s the most wonderful, amazing kid. He is definitely our little dictator at the moment, but it’s the best," she laughs.
Burgess and Green, who got engaged in 2022 after meeting on a blind date two years earlier, are also thinking about expanding their family again. They welcomed Zane in June 2022, and Burgess says they’re hoping to give him a younger sibling sometime soon.
“We’ve talked about getting pregnant at some point next year,” she says. “I like the idea of an age gap of around four to five years between siblings, so hopefully we can make that happen.”
Because Zane was conceived while Burgess was on birth control, Green later had a vasectomy. But Burgess says they always left the door open for more kids.
“He was amazing,” she says. “He knew that birth control made me feel crazy, so he said, ‘Let me handle it.’ He got a vasectomy, but we always knew we could do IVF or freeze sperm. It was never ‘no more babies.’ It was just about protecting my health. So yes, IVF is most likely the route we’ll take.”
Burgess adds that recent testing gave her peace of mind. “I had all my eggs and hormones checked, and my doctor was like, ‘Girl, you’re fine.’ That really took the pressure off.”
As for walking down the aisle, the couple is content to take their time.
“We are definitely going to get married,” she says. “But I don’t want to be pregnant or in postpartum when we do. I’d love to have that next baby and maybe even have them carried down the aisle. I want our whole family there. And it feels like we’re still waiting for one more to arrive.”
While motherhood is her top priority these days, Burgess recently reflected on the show that changed her life. She first joined Dancing with the Stars in 2011, eventually becoming one of its most beloved pros.
“It was one of the defining chapters of my life,” she says. “I found myself, I found family, and I saw how powerful performance can be — not just for me, but for so many people watching. It was truly magical.”
"I'll never forget the moment sitting in the office when they told me that I was going to be a professional on the show. And the feeling that went through me, it was absolute, deep joy and gratitude and saying to myself, 'Oh, my God, it's finally happening.'"
